Find the Portuguese product information

INFARMED is the place to check medicines in Portugal. Ask the pharmacy to show you the relevant product record, presentation and current leaflet. If a brand is unfamiliar, search by active ingredient. A semaglutide entry may not describe Wegovy tablets, and an injection authorisation says nothing about an oral one. Confirm the exact formulation before you discuss price or decide to transfer an existing prescription.

Find out what the consultation includes

A clinic package may combine assessment, follow-up, nutrition support and a medicine charge in different ways. Ask for an itemised breakdown and the names of the prescriber and dispensing pharmacy. If the service offers remote continuing care, ask whether the service can treat you while you are physically outside Portugal. Make sure you can contact the clinician and pharmacist directly, beyond a sales messaging account.

Plan beyond a short holiday purchase

A prescription assessment during a visit should cover your current medicines and treatment history. Bring the date and strength of your last GLP-1 dose and explain any gaps or side effects. A pharmacy may not be able to reproduce an overseas prescription straight away. If you plan to take treatment home, sort out the destination's import requirements and the product's transport conditions before you pay for a supply.

Compare realistic ongoing costs

Ask for the cost at your current prescribed strength as well as the lowest starter price. Confirm the quantity, delivery arrangements and what happens if stock runs out after the consultation. Check reimbursement with your own payer, separately from authorisation. Keep receipts and dispensing details so a later clinician knows what you were supplied and where the medicine came from.

Before you buy in Portugal

Check the current product record with INFARMED before you buy. Confirm the exact product and indication for Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablets or Foundayo. Approval, a suitable prescription, payment, stock and permission to carry medicine home are decided separately in Portugal.

  • Ask a clinician in Portugal which product suits you and whether your treatment record is enough for an assessment.
  • Find out the total cost of consultations, dispensing and delivery before you agree to ongoing treatment.
  • Keep the packaging, the prescription and the dispensing record together. Before you use medicine from a damaged parcel or with doubtful storage, ask the pharmacist.

Your own medicine leaflet and prescriber come first. A source from another country does not mean the same rule applies in the UK.
