Find the Belgian medicine record

Use the Belgian medicines database linked by the European Medicines Agency to check the product information. Match the active ingredient, brand, dosage form and strength to the medicine on offer. Ask for the patient information in a language you understand. An injection entry and an oral entry are not interchangeable. A national product record does not tell you whether a particular pharmacy has your pack in stock.

Ask about payment before you start

Discuss the clinical indication with your prescriber and confirm reimbursement separately with your insurer or mutuality. If funding is uncertain, ask for a private cost breakdown. A treatment programme should set out medicine charges, appointment fees and whether monitoring is included. Ask what happens if approval is refused or supply runs out after you have paid for a consultation. Another patient's reimbursement outcome tells you nothing about yours.

Handle cross-border prescriptions with care

Belgium borders several countries, so cross-border care is common. Prescription and dispensing requirements still apply. Ask the pharmacy in advance whether it can accept your document and whether it needs more information. If you are collecting medicine for onward travel, check the rules in your home country and any other destination. A receipt proves a purchase. A receipt gives no permission for each border you cross afterwards.

Get clear pack details and instructions

Confirm how many doses the pack contains and whether you need extra needles or accessories. Ask the pharmacist to demonstrate an unfamiliar pen and give you written directions. Keep a medicine list with generic names so another clinician understands your treatment even if the brand changes. If storage during travel is uncertain, get product-specific advice before using the medicine. Outdoor temperature is no reliable guide.

Before you buy in Belgium

Check the current record in the Belgian medicines database before you buy. Confirm the exact product and indication for Mounjaro, Wegovy injection, Wegovy tablets or Foundayo. Approval, prescribing, reimbursement, stock and permission to carry medicine abroad are separate decisions in Belgium.

  • Ask a clinician in Belgium which product suits you and whether your treatment history is sufficient for an assessment.
  • Get the full cost of consultations, dispensing and delivery before you agree to ongoing treatment.
  • Keep the labelled packaging, prescription and dispensing record. Let the pharmacist check a damaged parcel or uncertain storage before you use the medicine.

Your own medicine leaflet and prescriber come first. A source from another country does not mean the same rule applies in the UK.
