Timing with other oral medicines

The UK instructions say to wait at least 30 minutes after a Wegovy tablet before you take other oral medicines. Swallowing several tablets together affects how much oral semaglutide you absorb. This applies even when the other medicine has no known chemical interaction with semaglutide.

Some medicines come with their own timing rules. Levothyroxine stands out. The UK label describes higher thyroxine levels and recommends considering thyroid blood tests. Ask a pharmacist to fit the two routines together, so you never have to choose which fasting instruction to break.

Monitoring as part of the plan

If you take warfarin or another coumarin, the label recommends frequent INR checks when you start semaglutide. This calls for monitoring. Do not change your anticoagulant dose yourself. Tell your anticoagulation service about the new treatment.

Insulin and sulfonylureas raise the risk of hypoglycaemia alongside semaglutide. Your diabetes team may need to adjust treatment and explain glucose checks. Never combine semaglutide with another GLP-1 receptor agonist. Semaglutide does not replace insulin when you need insulin.

Give a complete medicine list

List medicines from your GP, hospital, private clinic and online providers. Add over-the-counter painkillers, antihistamines, supplements, herbal products and anything you take now and then. A product missing from your NHS repeat list still counts.

Record what you take today, including recent starts, stops and dose changes. Bring the packets or a current list if names are hard to remember. A pharmacist reviews your medicines best when they see everything, beyond the few you suspect interact.

Get a clear plan for each interaction

An interaction may need monitoring, a dose limit, a different medicine or avoiding the combination. Each is a different response. Do not stop a needed treatment or change a dose because of a general warning online. Ask the prescribers involved to agree one clear plan.

Tell each provider who else treats you. An online weight-management service will not know about a hospital prescription unless you say so, and an urgent care clinician may not see a privately prescribed tablet. Sharing this information prevents mixed instructions and helps explain unexpected side effects or changes in response.

An online interaction checker is a fair starting point. Its result still needs a professional to apply it to your formulation and your health. A warning sometimes means monitoring instead of avoidance, and a simple-looking timing issue sometimes has real practical effects. Ask for the action plan behind any red or amber alert.

Questions for your appointment

Ask for a written daily schedule and any thyroid, INR or glucose checks you need. Confirm whom to contact when a new medicine is added. The first interaction check will not cover medicines started later.
