From tablet to bloodstream
A swallowed peptide does not normally work the way an injected one does. Digestion and the gut wall make delivery difficult. Wegovy tablets contain salcaprozate sodium, an absorption enhancer. The formulation and the way you take the tablet together help semaglutide enter your bloodstream.
This is why an oral dose has a different number of milligrams from an injection. The same reason makes extra tablets, crushed tablets or ignoring the food rules unsafe. The whole product decides how you take the medicine, beyond the ingredient name alone.
Why people respond differently
Semaglutide activates GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite and in glucose-dependent insulin release. You may feel full sooner or find eating less takes less effort. The medicine does not dissolve fat. Losing all hunger is neither needed nor a sensible aim.
The UK label notes more variable exposure after oral dosing than after injection. Your response on tablets may differ from someone on injections, even where average exposure in studies is similar. If results disappoint, check first how consistently you take the tablet.
Appetite changes say nothing about your character
Hunger, fullness, habits, sleep, stress and the food around you all shape eating. A medicine changes part of this system. Every food choice still takes some effort. Feeling hungry on one day does not mean you have failed or the medicine has stopped working.
Keep a note of what changed: feeling full sooner, less interest in snacks, leaving food on the plate, or nausea which stops you eating. Each means something different. A smaller appetite supports treatment. If you cannot keep up enough food or fluid, get clinical advice.
How the medicine acts does not prove every benefit
Action on GLP-1 receptors does not prove the medicine prevents every complication of obesity or diabetes. Heart outcomes, glucose results and weight results are separate endpoints. A benefit shown for another molecule or formulation needs its own evidence before you apply it to Wegovy tablets.
A plausible biological explanation is no diagnosis either. New abdominal pain, tiredness or dizziness has several possible causes. Take your symptoms and medicine history to a clinician, and do not rely on an explanation from the internet.
The effects build over time. They do not reset with each tablet. One hungrier day tells you nothing about receptor activity or how much medicine you absorbed. Sleep, illness and meals change how you feel too. Note any pattern which lasts and review it with your prescriber. Never adjust your dose by how hungry you feel.
Questions for your appointment
If you are unsure whether treatment is working, ask your prescriber to review how you take the tablet, time on your current dose, your weight trend and your wellbeing together. Ask which claimed benefits come from tablet trials and which come from injection studies.
